Princes Risborough Cricket Club 1st XI v Hillingdon Manor 2 on Sat 08 Sep 2012 at 12.30pm
Princes Risborough Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The day of reckoning!!
After winning the toss, Lau decided to bowl, counting on keeping the oppo down to a reasonable total, and then chasing to get the win.
Once again, the new ball pair of Lau and Wes made life hard for Hillingdon's top order, helped by some variable bounce. Each took an early wicket, removing the opening pair, while keeping runs down as usual, with Wes only going for 6 runs off his 7 overs. Imran and Andy Hitchcock kept building the pressure, and wickets started to fall regularly as Risborough took control. Imran was rewarded with a wicket for bowling a consistent, testing line and length as he has all season, and Andy Hitchcock went through the middle and lower order in a ten over spell, taking 6 wickets through his usual testing use of the slope and immaculate line and length. Steve had a short cameo, taking a wicket in his two over spell, and Hillingdon were bowled out for 81, a fantastic effort.
In reply, despite the early loss of Wes, Matt and Pratik both got starts, hit some boundaries, but then fell in quick succession. Farhan Khan and James Bee then showed patience, good technique and real maturity in the way they played to put on a 50 partnership and win the match, both finishing unbeaten, a very fitting way to finish the season with two of our young players responding to the tough situation perfectly, and showing great ability, as Risborough won by 7 wickets.
Man of the match: Andy Hitchcock.
Risborough therefore secured promotion back into division 5, finishing as runners up. Once again this match showed how well the team has performed all season as a whole, with each person contributing, backing eachother up and showing increasing individual ability, as we have won matches from all types of situations. The progress that this team has made this year has been exceptional, and a lot of the young players stepping up and coming of age, which bodes well for the coming years for the team. Well done to the whole team.
